Bandits Win First Championship in Their History

The Cumberland Bandits won their first Championship in franchise history last night by taking game 5 by a score of 3-1 in St-Isidore. The NCJHL finals that saw the two top teams this season face off in a highly anticipated series that did not disappointed. Although the series only went 5 games it was extremely close with only seconds each game deciding who would win and who would lose.

In game 5 St-Isidore got two tough breaks when referees disallowed two goals. THe Bandits worked hard and kept their composure and were able to put away the first place team to claim their first Championship in their first appearance in the final.

"I'm very happy for these kids and I congratulate them for believing in our system and playing it out," said a jubilant Head Coch Rick Julien. "I thanked my two on bench assistant coaches for believing in me and for their hard work. Both Dale Murdoch and Dan Neault deserve a lot of the credit".

The trophy was presented by the league executive at centre Ice to co-captains Ben Harris and Kurtis Craney-Plouffe. "We have a lot of leaders on this team, and all the veteran players stepped up their game in these play0ffs and that led to all the players doing extremely well. I truly believe this is what we can clearly call a total team effort," said assistant coach Dale Murdoch.

An emotional Dan Neault was seen hugging his players and colleagues as he said, "I'm so proud of this team and so proud and grateful to be a part of it. We all dedicated ourselves to our logo and it's safe to say that we represented it well."

The Cumberland Bandits wish to thank the St-Isidore Eagles for a hardly contested final. We respect what they accomplished all season long. They are a class organization and we are proud to have competed in a tough series with them and equally proud that we were able to shake hands as friends when all was said and done. We thank the entire organization for the congratulations that they offered us.

The Bandits also wish to thank all the teams in our league for a great season. Every night was a battle this year, there were no gimmies. We would in particular wish to thank the Embrun Panthers for their support. We battled them very hard in a seven game series and in turn their players assisted every game of the final series. We still strongly believe that they are still the bar that we all aspire to be in this league and we thank them for their class.

Finally the Bandits wish to thank the NCJHL executive. These men and women have a thankless job. We do not compliment them when things are right and we berate them when things go wrong, yet they keep doing what they do because they strongly believe in our product. We truly appreciate your work.

To our Fans, the parents of our players, the spouses of all our volunteers and our volunteers themselves there are no real words to explain how we all feel for what you have done for all of us. Without you, there cannot be a Bandits organization and really cannot be a Championship. So here are the words that are best said and are the simplest to say.........THANK YOU!!!
